Reduce The Cost Of Cooling Your Office With These Central AC Alternatives

Posted on

If you have a home office, you likely already know just how much of a challenge it can be to keep the space cool when the weather is warm outside. While you can turn up the air conditioner to reduce the heat, it can be costly when the temperature is set too low.

To make your home office more comfortable, consider the following ideas for staying cool while working.

Direct Hot Air Out of the Room

The easiest way to keep a home office cool is to simply redirect the air out of the room. Since hot air can be trapped in the room from your computers, you need to make sure that there is a way for the air to escape. The easiest way to do this is by putting a fan near the doorway to another room so that the air can escape.

Keep Direct Sunlight Out During the Day

Since some of the heat that enters your home office comes from the windows, it is a good idea to simply cover them up. Instead of using standard shades or curtains, opt for blackout curtains that can greatly decrease the heat in the room during the day. In fact, some brands claim to block up to 99% of light, making it easier to work without a glare on any screens and with reduced temperatures as well.

Consider Putting in Shade Landscaping Outside

If your home office has a lot of windows and you do not want to use blackout curtains in order to enjoy natural light, try getting creative with shade landscaping. Planting a few large trees or oversized shrubs can help add some much-needed shade, while improving your curb appeal.

Install Additional Fans in the Computer

Your computer can quickly become overheated due to all the working parts inside, but this can be reduced greatly just by adding a few case fans. Installing fans to the inside of your computer case can be inexpensive and takes just a few minutes once the case is opened, while helping to reduce the temperature in the office.

Change Your Office Hours, If Possible

While this may not be possible if you have clients you communicate with daily, it may be a good idea to adjust your working hours. Working only in the early morning and evening can make a big difference in the temperature of your office space since most of the heat occurs in the middle of the day.

Taking the time to explore your options for cooling down your office can go a long way towards feeling more comfortable while working. While you can still rely on central air for most of your home, it is beneficial to supplement it with these cooling tips. For more information, talk to an AC professional like Enright and Sons.
